Each school in Transylvania County, North Carolina has an Angel Tree that provides clothing and a toy or fun item to needy children each Christmas Season. Children are nominated by school counselors, principals, teachers and social workers. The children are nominated by adults who work with them each day. Some children are selected because they have inadequate clothing or do not have adequate winter clothing or shoes. Other students are known to be in extremely needy circumstances.
The Transylvania County School's Angel Tree projects have been in place for about ten (10) years. Many teachers, staff and local
churches sponsor children each year. However, due to the recent down turn in the economy there are more needy children than ever before.
If you would like to help brighten Christmas for a needy child, we encourage you to participate in this worthy program. These items are provided to the children as they are headed home for the Christmas Holiday. To sponsor a child, a tax deductible donation can be made through Change the World Relief Organization. A donation of $125.00 per child is recommended.
If you would prefer to deal directly with the Angel Tree coordinator from a particular school, and/or want to be involved in the shopping and selection of the items for the child you sponsor, please contact Carolyn Barton, Director of Child Nutrition , at 828-884-6173 for a school contact name and number.
